".
..that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world" - Philippians 2:15
On Friday, October 28 the youth of Harvest took this verse and applied it at the third Shine The Light event hosted by Harvest Oakville. Harvest youth were encouraged by their leaders to invite their unsaved friends and family to this tremendous night of worship, fellowship, food and a clear gospel message.
Mike Armstrong (family ministries pastor at Harvest Barrie), along with Jordan Donald (our church’s worship director) and eight other leaders loaded 80 students on two buses for an adrenaline fueled drive down to Oakville. Upon arrival, the Barrie youth joined 300 others and began an excellent evening of worship, led by Jordan and backed up by the band from Harvest Oakville.
Mike emceed the event and Cory McKenna from London presented a powerful gospel message that saw two young people from Barrie give their lives to Christ! The “students have been encouraged to follow up with the friends they brought” said Mike.
The creative juices were flowing when pastors from Oakville, London, York and Barrie prepared a comic video to promote WinterFuse January 2012. Prepare for a laugh and
watch it here.
Ice breaker games, plenty of treats and snacks left the entire group feeling energized. The evening ended with “a tradition where we give all the students glow sticks... turn out all the lights and sing a rocked out version of
This Little Light Of Mine” explains Mike.
The raging success of Shine The Light has prompted the decision to now host a fall and a spring event each year, with Harvest Oakville hosting.
Harvest Youth - your church, and Jesus Christ are proud of the bold statement you are making as you “Shine the Light” to the lost of this world.
Let’s take the example set by these young people and show Jesus’ love to the world.
