Luke 23:49-56

Lessons from the life of Joseph of Arimathea
- Cristian Barbosu
- April 29, 2012

Joseph of Arimathea was:
- member of the council (vs 50)
- good and righteous (vs 50)
- just, non-compromising (vs 51)
- a man of faith (vs 51)

Why do people fear or are ashamed of Christ:
- position
- prestige
- popularity

Remember if you want to break the cycle of fear and shame:
- true faith demands courage (Mark 15:42)
- true faith demands a price (Luke 23:52)
---price of his dignity
---price of his popularity/position/prestige(Numbers 19)
---price of material things

- True faith demands a public testimony

Will you take a public stand for Jesus?

Celebration Weekend # 2 - Joel Anderson

A Clear Charge to our Church: Make Most of Him
Revelation 1:9-20
Joel Anderson

It's a message that's got to be clearly heard (v. 9-11)

It's a message meant to come through his church (v. 12-13a, 20)

It's a message that's all about Jesus Christ (v. 13b-19)
  • He is priest (v. 13) - "Come to me" Matthew 11:28
  • He is pure (v. 14) - "Be holy as I AM holy" 1 Peter 1:16
  • He is powerful (v. 15) - "Nothing is too hard for you" Jeremiah 32:17
  • He is penetrating (v. 16-17a) - "And there is no creature hidden from his sight" Hebrews 4:13a

Small Group Curriculum

1.     When, where and how did you first hear the voice of Jesus?

2.     What kinds of things dull our hearing?

3.     Respond to this quote from Howard Hendricks:  “In the midst of a generation screaming for answers Christians are stuttering.”  (What are the five clear truths we have to share?)

4.     Share your vision or understanding of how Harvest Barrie is carrying the message of making most of Jesus.  (vs. 11)

5.     Read verses 12-16.  What strikes you most in this description of Jesus?  Which characteristic is most precious to you right now?

6.     How can I magnify the truth about Christ in my life? (He is priest, pure, powerful and penetrating).
