Truly Epic...Jesus Christ and the power of an indestructible life

Hold Fast:  We feel sure of better things
Hebrews 6:1-12
Todd Dugard

We feel sure of better things for you!

   Why? Is there a problem? (v. 1-3)

Yes, there is a serious concern that you are not mature enough in your faith.

Mature enough to handle what? (v. 4-8)

To handle the tough talk that says that not all who profess Christ as Christ's.

So, should I be concerned about myself? (v. 9-12)

Well, not if you're really one of God's "beloved" ones and are evidencing the better things like...

         love

         hope

         faith

         and patience

SG Curriculum

1.     What kind of better things do we really need to be pursuing?

2.     Last week much of the discussion was about what is basic.  How did your conclusions reflect what we find in verses 1-3?  (repentance and faith/baptism/prayer/resurrection and judgment)

3.     Do we believe that God is actively working in us?  (vs. 3)  Read Phil. 1:6/1 Thess. 5:23-24

4.     Read 2 Tim. 2:19  What does this say about our desire to know for sure about someone’s salvation?

5.     Have I asked seriously if I am one who has stopped at:
cognition without commitment
sampling without savouring
association without embracing?

6.     What would be a mature response to this warning from Hebrews?

7.     What are some evidences of grace in my life in the areas of love, hope, faith and patience?

Breakout:

1.     Are there any foundational things I need to nail down?  (vs. 3)

2.     Are there any ways I am toying with grace or holding Jesus’ sacrifice in contempt in any way?

3.     What specific areas of grace, (maturity), do I need to grow in?

Transforming Prayer:  Pray the following Scriptures.

1.     Hebrews 6:9-12

2.      2 Timothy 2:19
