Absolutely Sure
1 John 1:1-4

I can be absolutely sure that I know Christ as my Saviour when...

1. I've had a life-altering encounter with him (v. 1-3a)
2. I'm making vital connections with him and his people (v. 3b)
3. I've recognized that fulfillment is found in him alone (v. 4)

SG Curriculum

1.     What are the things I am uncertain of these days?

2.     What is the one thing God wants me to be certain of? (1 John 5:13)

3.     Have I had a life-changing encounter with Jesus Christ? (Can I say with confidence, “I am saved!”)?  Write out your story in one paragraph.

4.     What growth points do I need to work on to bring confidence? Read Galatians 5:16-25.

5.     In what ways am I “in the boat” with other believers?

6.     What is the next thing I need to partner with God in?

7.     Is there any specific thing I am trying to squeeze fulfillment out of other than Christ?

 

Breakout:

1.     What specific growth point can I work on this week? 

2.     How am I doing on the nine things 1 John lists as signs of life? (Find them on the blog this week)

Transforming Prayer:

Pray the following Scriptures.

1.     1 John 5:13

2.     Ephesians 2:1-10

I will not forget that holiness produces happiness (v. 1-2)

I will not be fooled into imagining that sin satisfies (v. 3-4)

I will not be blind to the fullness and freedom of his forgiveness (v. 5)

I will not think the surf hut is better than the safe house (v. 6-7)

I will not be an obstruction to his instruction (v. 8-9)

I will not exchange sorrow for steadfastness (v. 10)

I will sing out, speak out, stand out, live out all that God is to me (v. 11)

SG Curriculum

1.     When can I take time this summer to contemplate my spiritual walk?

2.     At what specific points is my heart treacherous to God? (vs 1-2)

3.     Share your story for strengthening.  (I was … but God … and now …)

4.     How does specific confession help us unpack our heart issues? (vs. 5)

5.     Read James 4:4.  How intense is the spiritual battle I am facing? (vs. 6-7)

6.     What are some ways I can be open to God’s instruction? (vs. 8)

7.     Am I exchanging anything for God’s love and mercy? (vs. 10)

 

Breakout:

1.     What specific treachery in my heart is God’s hand heavy on me about?  (vs. 5) 

2.     How am I responding to God’s instruction in my life right now? (vs. 8)

 

Transforming Prayer:

Pray the following Scriptures.

1.     Psalm 32:6-7

2.     James 4:4-10

1.     Which “bucket” do I fit into? (Blend in/Stand out/Noticeably different)

2.     Have I had the experience of “standing out” for Christ?

3.     In what specific ways do I differ from the culture around me?  Read James 1:27

4.     Is my Christianity boring?  What vital elements change this?

5.     Read John 17:14-17.  What does this passage tell us about being salt?

6.     What are some realities in my life that reflect Christ?  (vs. 16)

 

Breakout:

1.     Are there any specific ways I am weakening the flavor of my life?  (vs. 13) 

2.     With whom can I maximize my influence this week?

Jesus Christ, to whom be glory…

…in our prayers (v18a)

…in our sincere desire to live for him (v18b)

…in the sense of urgency we have for the mission (v19)

…in our reconciled relationship with God (v20)

…in our surrender to his will (v21)

…in our exhortation of one another (v22)

…in our common experience of grace (v23-25)

 

SG Curriculum

1.     What are some things that bring glory to Jesus Christ?

2.     For what specific issues do I need the power of an indestructible life to accomplish?

3.     For what specific requests am I knocking on heaven’s door?

4.     Is there anything in my conscience or my behavior hindering my worship, my work for Christ, or the effect of God’s Word in me?

5.     Read Matthew 28:19-20 and Matthew 22:37-39.  How does urgency for this mission show in my life?

6.     Is there an exhortation I am having trouble bearing with?

 

Breakout:

1.     What action must I take to elevate prayer in my life?  

2.     Is the peace of God hindered in my life?  What specific thing might I need to repent from?

3.     Pray for each other’s ability to bear with specific exhortations we struggle with.

Transforming Prayer:

Pray the following Scriptures.

1.     Hebrews 13:20-21

2.     Pray specific verses from Hebrews that have blessed you.

No fear - Remember your leaders

Hebrews 13:7-17


As leaders in the church of Jesus Christ, we must remember to…

…live with integrity because the people are imitating our faith (v7)

…teach the Bible accurately because the people are listening to our words (v8-16)

…lead with humility because the people are putting themselves under our leadership (v17)

And, by the way, we have to give account to God for all this.
