What Are Small Groups?

Our small groups are the primary pathway for you to build relationships with others at Harvest, to be cared for, to use your spiritual gifts, and to grow in your walk with Christ. Small groups typically meet weekly, three out of four weeks, in host couples’ homes in various neighbourhoods around the region.  A typical small group meeting consists of a time of worship and prayer, Bible study, mutual ministry time (men with men, women with women) and fellowship. The biblical curriculum is common to all groups and is usually based on the weekend teaching. Meetings are approximately two hours in length, and each group has a leader couple, an apprentice leader couple as well as approximately ten members. There are small groups that meet on various nights throughout the week, and one that is close to you. If you are not in a small group, but would like to join one, please at the Harvest office. She’ll be happy to get you connected!

Small Group Orientation

If you have recently joined a Small Group or desire to be placed in one sometime in the near future we invite you to join us on the second Sunday of the month from 10:45-11a.m. in the library (just off the lobby) for a Small Group Orientation. During these 15 minutes Pastor Roger will speak a bit about Small Groups at Harvest, give you some important information, review the Small Group covenant with you and answer any questions that you might have. If you have not already done so please complete the Small Group Member Information form and drop it off at Connections on Sunday morning or bring it with you to the Small Group Orientation.

Our Small Group Values - S E R V E

Spiritual Formation
The members of a small group will, on an ongoing basis, asses their own development in Christ, confess areas of struggle to one another, and set personal goals for growth in Christ in the year to come. Throughout the year, they will share their progress and encourage one another in their pursuit of godliness.

Evangelism and Prayer
Each household within the small group will commit to pray for specific households within their neighbourhood who have yet to embrace Jesus Christ.  As a small group, they will pray together for these neighbours, and hold one another accountable to prayerfully and intentionally reach out to these families both individually and corporately.

Reproduction
Each small group is open to welcoming new members and will have at least one apprentice leader or “leader-in-training” who is preparing to launch a new group as the Lord adds to their number.

Volunteerism
Each member of a small group will commit to support the greater body of Christ at Harvest through involvement in various ministries and service opportunities.

Extending Care and Compassion
The members of a small group will be committed to care for one another and those around them.  This will be manifested in practical help for those in difficult or crisis situations, including hospital or home visits, meal preparation, prayer, and referral to church and community services.  In response to the social needs of our community, each small group will also commit to participating as families in different compassion projects throughout the year primarily with our local global ministries partners or in other ways as opportunity allows.  Each small group will select, prepare for, and celebrate their involvement in their compassion project.

Our Model

It is no coincidence where you live. God has intentionally and strategically placed you in your neighbourhood and called you to be his witness (Acts 1:8). With this in mind we generally try to build our small groups around “neighbourhoods”. This approach encourages a team of people, in close proximity, to:
  • Strategically work together in sharing Christ with their common neighbours
  • Be more available to care for one another
  • Live out biblical community and truly do life together.

F.O.C.I.S. Groups (Finding Out Christ Is Sufficient)

Another aspect of our small group ministry is F.O.C.I.S. groups (Finding Out Christ Is Sufficient). These groups address specific issues such as finances, marriage, etc. and are offered periodically throughout the year.
