Truly Epic...Jesus Christ and the power of an indestructible life

Run Hard - Faith endures

Todd Dugard

Hebrews 12:1-3

When you have a faith that endures,

…you model your life on those who went before you (v1a)

...resolving to “run the race” as they did (v1b-2)

…getting rid of all excess weight

…purging sin from your life

…and setting your sights on the prize

…filling your thoughts with Jesus (v3a)

…because we all “grow weary and fainthearted” at times. (v3b)

SG Curriculum

1.     Who are the witnesses you have in your heritage to follow?

2.     In what ways are the “races set before us” as individuals alike or unique?

3.     In what way can good things (weight) hinder living for Christ?  (vs. 1)

4.     In what ways can sin continue to entangle us? (vs. 1)  What can we do about it?

5.     Read Philippians 2:1-11.  In what specific ways can we carefully consider Jesus’ example in comparison to our own lives?

6.     What are some things that cause weariness or discouragement?  Read 2 Corinthians 4:16-18.  What do we need to keep our eyes on and how do we do that?

Breakout:

1.     What specific weight or sin is holding me back that I need freedom from?

2.     How can we encourage each other in Jesus this week?

 Transforming Prayer:

Pray the following Scriptures.

1.     Hebrews 12:1-3

2.     Philippians 2:1-11

Hebrews 11:32-40

Do you have a faith that believes?

Believe this: You will "rise again to a better life" (v. 35)

Believe this: You are one "of whom the world was not worthy" (v. 36-38)

Believe this: You have "something better" waiting for you (v. 39-40)

7.     Share some evidences of faith we see in each other.

Luke 23:49-56

Lessons from the life of Joseph of Arimathea
- Cristian Barbosu
- April 29, 2012

Joseph of Arimathea was:
- member of the council (vs 50)
- good and righteous (vs 50)
- just, non-compromising (vs 51)
- a man of faith (vs 51)

Why do people fear or are ashamed of Christ:
- position
- prestige
- popularity

Remember if you want to break the cycle of fear and shame:
- true faith demands courage (Mark 15:42)
- true faith demands a price (Luke 23:52)
---price of his dignity
---price of his popularity/position/prestige(Numbers 19)
---price of material things

- True faith demands a public testimony

Will you take a public stand for Jesus?

3.     Share a time when you failed, because of fear and shame, to identify with Christ?

4.     “Satan will seek every opportunity to get you to hide, lie, and deny your identity in Christ.”  What does this cause?  John 19:38

5.     Share what identifying with Jesus openly might cost you?

6.     Read Matthew 10:32, Mark 15:43.  What do these passages tell us?

7.     What is an area I need to take courage in this week?
