Biblical Soul Care

As the church gathers together to do what Scripture directs, it doesn’t take long to realize that we are imperfect people doing life together. Most of our issues are handled as we grow together by helping each other apply God’s Word to our lives. We share a basic commitment to directive counsel by encouraging each other to live out God’s truth. Within the church there are those with training and maturity to give corrective counsel to those who are hurting. Finally, the church needs highly trained individuals that can give intensive care to complex problems.

Our desire is to develop increasing levels of authenticity, transparency and vulnerability among ourselves. This will happen across all our relationships but the usual context for this is our small groups. We want everyone in a small group because we are not a church with small groups but a church of small groups! Small groups are Christ-centered relationships that help us grow by applying God’s Word.

In addition to that, small groups are how we deliver care to the body. It is where the holes in the net are smallest and we can catch and meet most needs by the body encouraging and helping one another practically as well as spiritually.

To help with this we are training a core group in Biblical Soul Care who can come alongside to help reach the heart issues at the core of most ongoing problems. This training will help us do better in directive counsel, further realize the corrective component of counsel and lead some of our members to further training so we will be able to better help with intensive situations.

To give an overview of what Biblical Soul Care looks like in the local church listen to “A Picture of Biblical Soul Care” from the book of Philemon.

To find out how you can be involved, listen to “The People of Biblical Soul Care” from Romans 15:14.

I trust you will be blessed.
