An elder candidate will have been selected based on the biblical qualifications of an elder (1 Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:5-9, and 1 Peter 5:1-5) and will have completed an extensive questionnaire, an in-depth interview process, and a trial eldership lasting several months. His name will then be put before the church which will be given 30 days to speak personally with the candidate and/or any member of the Board of Elders if they are aware of any disqualifying characteristics or interpersonal issues needing resolution. At the end of the 30 day period, if there are no unresolved objections to the candidate, he will join the Board of Elders. A formal laying on of hands, as seen modelled in the New Testament, will be scheduled.
At the Annual Members’ Meeting on September 19, 2021, Pastor Todd introduced Erich Koroschetz as an elder candidate which began the 30 day period.
Erich came to know Christ through the ministry of First Baptist Church in Timmins, Ontario, where he grew up. Erich yielded to the power of the Gospel in his mid-teens and was privileged to develop his understanding of Scripture and ministry leadership with the support and encouragement of many strong believers. He met his wife, Val, there and they were married in 2007. In recent years, God has blessed them with two vibrant boys: Felix and Rudi.
Despite geographical distance, Erich and Val have been members of Harvest Barrie since 2012, and moved “home” to Barrie in 2016. Since then, they have enjoyed serving together as small group leaders and small group coaches, as well as in various other ministries. Together, they desire deeply to see others mature in their faith and find freedom in Christ.
Gripped by the indescribable power and beauty of the gospel, Erich aspires to live a life reflective of Colossians 1: 11-14: a consistent life of thanksgiving to God, delivered “from the domain of darkness” and transferred “to the kingdom of his beloved Son…”.
