Counselling & Care Director
Steph is from Lindsay, Ontario but has lived in a bunch of places across Canada. She and her husband Bruce moved to Barrie in 2013 after spending 15 years on the East Coast. They brought their three kids to Harvest on their first Sunday in Barrie and almost immediately knew it would be their new church home.
Growing up Roman Catholic, Steph had some knowledge of God from an early age. It didn’t make much difference in her life until she was 24, when she got a personal letter from a stranger who shared the gospel with her. As a journalist, she had covered lots of tragedies and had her own to cope with, which left her feeling angry and alone. God used many people and circumstances in those years to draw her close to him, and she started going to church. There she discovered that “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in times of trouble” (Psalm 46:1).
Steph’s greatest desire is to gently come alongside people who are hurting and lead them toward Christ, the only hope we have. Her compassion for people who have experienced trauma or suffering led her to pursue a masters degree in counselling. She is a member of the Professional Association of Christian Counsellors and Psychotherapists.
